Teacher Evans Class of 1979

I received a card from the Maynard Evans Class of 1979 Reunion Committee.

Enjoying retirement. My wife and I do a lot of traveling. Last month we visited Thailand and then spent 3 weeks in Viet Nam. We visited with a former North Vietnamese officer and his wife in Hanoi. I flew many missions out of Danang and I told him if I had been hit it would be just at takeoff speed because the NVA Regulars would fire at us on departure from the mountain. He agreed that it was good that we didn't kill each other because we couldn't be here today.

I enjoyed the students that I met at Evans. Ask Jonathan Pinder about the rocks he carried around in his back pack. Natasha Cline's brother Mark was a student of mine. I sent him 2nd Lt bars just before his graduation at the Air Force Academy and then I sent him his pilot wings just before his graduation from pilot training. Years later he sent me pictures from Iraq where he was the commander of the F-16. Several of your classmates have been very successful.

I was poor - I did not have a car.

I loved my classmates and still do. We get together often. We use Disney timeshares and will meet in Hilton Head the last of Sep. last year it was Vero Beach. We always get together (the hard core) in Knoxville just before Christmas. Next year we will celebrate our sixtieth reunion. Many of my teammates and classmates have (gone West) Three of my high school teammates received football scholarships along with me in Mississippi in the fall of 1950 they are gone.

Jean and I have a new Great Grandaughter - Windsor Noelle Young born Feb 4th - she and her Mom and Dad joined us with eight other family members for a delightful Easter Brunch. I retired from the Air Force in Sep 1972. Retired from teaching at Evans High School in June 1985. Forced to retire from flying by the FAA due to mandatory age in 1992 and plan to retire from Walt Disney World on June 15,2013 upon completing forty years in the Security Department.Jean and I were blessed with a second Great-Grandaughter in October 2012. Her names is Skylar Paige Young. Parents are Corey and Erin Young.
